Music, Drama, and Movement
At Epiphany School, everyone is a performer. Our students grow their creativity, explore their character, and discover the power and value of their unique voice through music, drama, and movement. “This program allows students to look inside themselves and understand who they are, what inspires them, and how they can express themselves,” says Sofia Piel, our music, drama, and movement specialist teacher. “It gives them so many opportunities to take risks and become more courageous and confident along the way.”
At every grade level, students practice public speaking and develop creative and interactive ways of showcasing what they’ve learned. They also explore the formal elements and components of music. Students’ creativity, courage, and confidence are on full display at our school performances. The entire school community, including grandparents and special friends, looks forward to these performances throughout the year.

Music, Drama, and Movement in January: Pre-K
The pre-k students are such a delightful group of singers and movers and characters! We have been dancing and freezing our bodies at different levels and in many different poses, using the letter of the week to inspire our lessons as well as puppets, stories and instruments. The students are natural movers and yogis, and they are very adept at connecting their imaginations with creative movement. I love seeing them twice a color cycle and getting to know these wonderful children!

Music, Drama, and Movement in January: Fourth Grade
Fourth grade had a wonderful performance before winter break, wowing their community with scenes they wrote themselves, beautiful singing, and some pretty original senses of humor. Since the show, we have begun learning dances including The Bus Stop and the Lindy Hop, and have continued practicing chords on the ukulele. They are a group of improvisers and have mastered telling a convincing story in “Who’s Telling the Truth,” as well as telling a story as a group in The Alphabet Game.

Music, Drama, and Movement in January: Third Grade
Third grade is ready to take the stage and show their acting skills in the play “If I Ever Knew.” We have been working very hard, memorizing lines and cues, working on stage directions and projection, and incorporating a soundscape with many different instruments. This is an awesome group of characters and we can’t wait to perform for our school and families!

Music, Drama, and Movement in January: First Grade
A very rhythmic group of students, this year’s first grade has already begun learning the “Rhythm Stick Line Dance,” something we normally start in second grade! Our first graders are creative movers as well, and have been working on the elements of Capoeira, the Brazilian dance/martial art. We have used puppets to share stories with each other, and have also been seeking the insight of The Great Booga Booga Booga, our 3-person classroom oracle, a storytelling creature with excellent powers of collaboration!

Music, Drama and Movement News in December: Fourth Grade
Fourth grade jumped into MDM this quarter by getting ready for their grade-level performance! Students have been writing their own scripts and learning how to bring the elements of a story to the stage. They are also blocking their scenes, learning foundational chords on the ukulele, and bringing their improvisational skills to new levels in the Alphabet Game, the Machine, and many other dramatic explorations. There is so much talent in this group and we are very excited to show the school and our families everything we've been working on!
